A musical journey through Cuban roots, jazz, and poetry.

Cuban double bassist, composer, and producer Gastón Joya presents music from his upcoming album, DANCE, a project that celebrates the richness of Cuba’s musical heritage through a contemporary lens, embracing jazz and experimentation.

Conceived as an expansive musical suite, DANCE weaves together rhythms, melodies, and influences to explore the relationship between tradition and creation, turning dance into an expression of the spirit and a celebration of the joy of living.

In this special concert at the Ateneo de Madrid, Gastón Joya will share this new music with flutist Arianna Mack and musicians Rodrigo Ballesteros (drums) and Miguel Wiwi García (piano), in a lineup that creates space for dialogue, improvisation, and sonic exploration.

The performance will also feature two special guests: Cuban poet and intellectual Alexis Díaz-Pimienta and Cuban actress and singer Gretel Cazón, whose contributions will expand the concert’s expressive universe, building bridges between music, words, and voice.

An opportunity to experience Gastón Joya’s creative world live and discover a work in progress, in which Cuban tradition evolves into a personal, contemporary, and vibrant language. The concert will also be filmed as part of the creative process behind this new recording project.
