ON BUD is a project by Germán Kucich based on compositions by Bud Powell, a key figure of Bebop. This movement, which emerged in the 1940s and 1950s, had a historical and political dimension that went beyond its musical innovations.

In contrast to the European avant-gardes, which eventually distanced themselves from everyday life, Bebop was born as a popular art form in Harlem and played a central role in the struggle for civil rights of the Black population in the United States. It was a modern and sophisticated music, comparable to the European avant-gardes, but with a strong emotional charge and a direct connection with its audience.

In this context, musicians such as Parker, Monk, and Bud Powell came to be recognized as “geniuses,” embodying the figure of the modern, radical, and liberating creator.
