Matteo Pastorino, an innovative voice in European bass clarinet and now based in Paris, presents his project centred around LightSide, his album released in spring 2025.

On this Spanish tour, he is joined by internationally acclaimed bass player Dario Deidda (Kurt Rosenwinkel’s bassist), pianist Domenico Sanna and drummer Armando Luongo.

The group performs music from the album, alongside new compositions that will be recorded for a forthcoming release during this tour.

As AllAboutJazz.com writes: “Matteo Pastorino crafts music that feels both structured and free-flowing… blending intricate rhythms with lyricism to create an emotional depth that is compelling and makes you want to listen to the tracks all over again”.

LightSide fully embodies this vision: a highly interactive quartet in which composition and improvisation intertwine to create an elegant, intense and expressive sound.

“Matteo Pastorino’s bass clarinet envelops us in deep and fiery emotions, making the serene clarity of his ensemble playing and his ability to weave low counter-melodies into a hypnotic flow all the more remarkable”. WYNTON MARSALIS.

“From Eric Dolphy to Michel Portal, including Bennie Maupin, John Surman and Louis Sclavis, to name but a few, the bass clarinet has enjoyed several golden ages. Today, it shines with renewed brilliance in the hands of Matteo Pastorino”. ROLLING STONE MAGAZINE.

“…the Italian Matteo Pastorino establishes himself as one of the new masters of the bass clarinet, at the heart of a richly blended jazz steeped in profound poetry”. JAZZ MAGAZINE.
