Founded in 2012, the Maureen Choi Quartet has evolved over more than a decade of shared musical experience, marked by extensive touring, ongoing collaborations, and a strong collective identity. Centered around the original music of violinist and composer Maureen Choi, the quartet functions as a chamber jazz group, where composition and improvisation maintain a constant dialogue. The quartet has developed a distinctive sound that combines continuity and reinvention.

With a solid foundation in the classical tradition and a strong presence of improvisation, the group reinterprets chamber writing from a contemporary perspective that integrates jazz, flamenco, and music linked to the Spanish diaspora. These influences are not presented as an explicit fusion, but as elements that coexist organically within the quartet’s language. Choi’s voice as a composer and improviser—lyrical and deeply expressive—serves as the central axis, expanded and transformed by years of shared experience among the musicians.

After years of touring throughout Europe, the United States, and Asia, the quartet’s music reflects a living relationship with the stage. Each concert moves between the written and the spontaneous, supported by the trust that can only be built over time. At Café Central Madrid, the Maureen Choi Quartet presents a repertoire in constant transformation, rooted in classical music, expanded through jazz, and collectively redefined in each performance.
