Transatlantic Quintet brings together five musicians from different international jazz scenes at Café Central Ateneo in a project built around the compositions and arrangements of Irish trumpeter Dr. Linley Hamilton MBE, one of the leading figures in Northern Irish jazz.
Hamilton, who holds a doctorate in Jazz Performance, teaches at Ulster University and hosts a jazz program on BBC Radio Ulster. He has collaborated with artists such as Van Morrison, Paul Brady and Foy Vance. In 2025, he was awarded an MBE for his services to music in Northern Ireland.
Joining him is saxophonist, flutist and composer Michael Buckley, who has worked with artists including George Coleman, Dave Liebman, Lee Konitz and Kurt Rosenwinkel, and double bassist Richie Ferrer, based in Madrid since 1989 and a member of Pedro Iturralde’s historic quartet. Ferrer has performed with musicians such as Wynton Marsalis, Gary Bartz, James Moody and Paquito D’Rivera.
The lineup is completed by Fede Calcagno on piano and Eddie Villegas on drums, two outstanding musicians from Madrid’s jazz scene.
Five musicians with diverse backgrounds and international experience come together in a repertoire that bridges jazz tradition with Linley Hamilton’s distinctive compositions and arrangements.
